With countries around the world reopening to tourists, swapping your New York City apartment can be an affordable way to travel for some people. Before considering a swap, you’ll need to make sure you’re comfortable allowing strangers to stay in your home. You’ll also want to ensure your co-op, condo or rental doesn’t limit or prohibit apartment swapping. Many buildings mandate that guests aren’t permitted in the absence of the owner, and/or require prior written permissions from management or the board. Safety and security are paramount to many co-op and condo boards, and do not want strangers wandering around in the building.
