Close to a year after the start of the pandemic, landlords are increasingly turning to lawsuits against retail tenants that continue to withhold rental payments. Both institutional and smaller landlords are turning to litigation in an effort to pressure tenants into meeting lease obligations. Restrictions for operating differ in many parts of the country, making it even more difficult for landlords seeking a path to move forward with tenants that continue to withhold rent.
