Lloyd F. Reisman Quoted by Law.com on Pied-à-Terre Tax Litigation

Lloyd F. Reisman, partner in  Belkin Burden Goldman’s Co-op and Condo Law Practice, was recently quoted in a Law.com article addressing the ongoing litigation surrounding New York City’s new pied-à-terre tax.

The article, Homeowners Notch Win in Pied-à-Terre Tax Fight, but Atty Says Any Court Relief Is Fleeting (subscription may be required to read), examines a temporary restraining order that pauses certain aspects of the City’s implementation of the tax while legal challenges move forward.

Lloyd described the ruling as “an exhale moment” for practitioners, noting that the injunction provides additional time for affected property owners and their advisors to navigate a complex and rapidly implemented program. At the same time, he emphasized that property owners should continue preparing exemption applications and gathering supporting documentation, as the current litigation is unlikely to permanently prevent the tax from taking effect.

Lloyd and the wider Co-op and Condo practice has been advising condominium, cooperative, and residential property owners on compliance with the new law and the exemption process, particularly where primary residency determinations may require extensive documentation.
