The federal ban on evictions was extended for a fourth and likely final time until July 31. While over half of the state bans are set to expire this month, New York state’s ban keeps tenants out of housing court until September 1. Property owners in New York seem much more concerned with the state ban then the recent federal extension. There are 14 states that have enacted their own bans on eviction – which trump the federal legislation. The CDC moratorium doesn’t stop landlords from filing but it does prevent courts from ruling on an eviction filing.
