Sherwin Belkin Quoted by The Real Deal, Hell Gate, and CRE Daily on NYC Rent Freeze Litigation
Sherwin Belkin, a founding partner of BBG, was recently widely quoted, including in a The Real Deal article, two Hell Gate articles, and a CRE Daily article examining the lawsuit challenging New York City’s rent freeze for rent-stabilized apartments.
In The Real Deal’s article, Sherwin discussed the uncertainty surrounding lease renewals while the case remains pending and the practical complications that could arise if the court ultimately overturns the Rent Guidelines Board’s determination. Describing the situation as “uncharted territory,” he noted that a ruling against the City could create significant disruption for landlords and tenants alike. “It is going to be a mess,” Sherwin said.
The two Hell Gate articles also examined the ongoing litigation, including discovery concerning communications between City Hall and members of the Rent Guidelines Board and efforts by the plaintiffs to obtain additional evidence regarding the circumstances surrounding the Board’s adoption of the rent freeze. Sherwin commented on the significance of those proceedings and the legal issues being explored as the case moves forward.
In separate coverage by CRE Daily, he addressed the uncertainty surrounding rent-freeze lease renewals and the unresolved questions that could arise if the court ultimately invalidates the Rent Guidelines Board’s determination.
