Sherwin Belkin Quoted in Gothamist on Mayoral Authority to Remove Rent Guidelines Board Members
Sherwin Belkin, founding partner of Belkin Burden Goldman LLP, was quoted in David Brand’s article in Gothamist article, which covers the possibility of Mayor Adams filling multiple seats on the NYC Rent Guidelines Board before the end of his term to deter a potential rent freeze proposed by mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
When asked about whether an incoming Mayor could remove such RGB members, Belkin noted that removal could only occur “for cause.” Absent evidence of wrongdoing or failure to meet statutory or regulatory requirements, removing an RGB member would be a “heavy lift” and likely face significant scrutiny in the courts.
