Lloyd F. Reisman Discusses Implementing Enforceable House Rules in Habitat Interview
BBG partner and Co-op and Condo Law practice leader Lloyd F. Reisman was featured in a Habitat Magazine interview on how co-op and condo boards can adopt and enforce house rules more effectively. He explained that rules must be grounded in a building’s governing documents to be enforceable, and that boards often run into issues when they exceed that authority or implement changes without proper notice.
Using a Lower East Side condominium as an example, Lloyd described how a board successfully restricted a resident’s access to amenities after identifying the appropriate authority in its bylaws and implementing a clear, well-communicated rule. He also noted that outdated documents can leave boards reliant on costly litigation, underscoring the importance of keeping governing documents aligned with house rules.
